Collagen crosslinking or CXL or C3R is usually done in progressive cases of Keratoconus. In children, the risk of progression is high and the surgeon may advise CXL in the first visit itself depending on the vision and the severity. In adults, the procedure is advised based on the risk factors of progression, stage of the disease at presentation and vision. In case the risk of progression is high or the disease itself is severe, your surgeon might advise you to undergo CXL in the first visit.

In most cases with less risk factors, the doctor may call you for a review in 3-6 months and assess progression of the disease. CXL is advised once progression of the disease is confirmed.
