Collagen crosslinking (also commonly called as CXL or C3R) is a procedure to arrest the progression of keratoconus. It increases the biomechanical strength and stiffens the cornea so that the progression of the disease is halted. It is important to remember that CXL does not reverse the keratoconus and is not done to restore vision. It is done to prevent further worsening. Your surgeon will help you with the visual rehabilitation after 4-6 weeks of the procedure. CXL usually causes blurred vision for the initial 3-4 months and you may perceived your vision to be "cloudy" after the procedure. This is a normal effect of the procedure and it reduces with time.
